    Hypnotherapy questions, honestly answered

Sixteen of the questions I am asked most often, answered in plain, simple words. If yours is not here, the free consultation is a lovely place to ask it.

    Does hypnotherapy really work?

Many people find it genuinely helpful, especially when they feel ready for something to shift. It works best as a team effort, where you stay an active part of the process the whole time. Everyone is different, and this work always sits alongside any medical or mental health care you may already have. It is not a cure or a guarantee, but plenty of people notice meaningful changes over the six sessions.

    Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes, hypnotherapy is widely seen as a safe, gentle approach when practiced by a trained professional. You stay fully aware, in control, and able to end a session whenever you want. It is a relaxed, focused state, not sleep or unconsciousness. The work is supportive and never replaces medical diagnosis or treatment. I always encourage you to keep your healthcare team informed.

    Will I lose control?

Not at all. This is one of the most common worries, and it is completely understandable. In hypnotherapy you stay fully awake and in charge the whole time. You can hear everything, remember everything, and open your eyes whenever you like. Stage hypnosis is for entertainment. Wellness hypnotherapy is a team effort. Nothing happens that you do not want to happen.

    Can everyone be hypnotized?

Most people can experience a light, comfortable hypnotic state. It is a natural ability we all have, a bit like getting lost in a good book or driving home on autopilot. The depth varies from person to person, and that is perfectly fine. Willingness and a sense of safety matter far more than any special talent for it. If you can relax and follow simple suggestions, you can benefit.

    Why a six-session program?

Six sessions give change room to settle and become part of everyday life. Each session builds gently on the one before, so the work feels steady rather than rushed. A single session can offer a helpful experience, but lasting change usually benefits from repetition and reflection. Most people find the six-session rhythm comfortable and realistic alongside a busy life.

How much does it cost and is the consultation really free?

The free 60-minute consultation is always free, with no obligation to continue. Individual sessions are $199, and the full six-session program is $995, offered as the best-value path. Sessions are paid by cash or bank transfer, handled simply at each appointment. There are no hidden costs, no booking fees, and no upfront package to buy before you have had your consultation.

Can I attend in person or online?

Both are available. In-person sessions are held at the practice in Bear Creek, North Carolina, and online sessions take place over a secure video call. The price is the same either way, and you can mix the two if your schedule changes. Online sessions are ideal if you are further away across North Carolina or simply prefer the comfort of your own home.

    What can hypnotherapy help with?

People come to me with all kinds of goals. Anxiety, smoking, weight, sleep, stress, confidence, phobias, habits, performance, and more. The work is here to help you approach these things gently and build supportive patterns. It works alongside medical and mental health care, never as a replacement. If you are unsure whether your concern is a fit, the free consultation is a lovely place to ask.

What happens in the first session?

We begin with your free 60-minute consultation. It is a real, live session held in person or online, just like the paid sessions. We talk through what you would like to change and how the program fits your life. If we continue, your first full session is gentle and unhurried. We talk, we settle into a relaxed state together, and we begin exploring the patterns you would like to shift. You stay fully aware and in control throughout.

    Can I use health insurance?

I do not work directly with insurance providers. If you would like to explore whether your policy covers hypnotherapy, please check with your insurer directly. Many people pay privately by cash or bank transfer, and the pricing is kept simple and transparent so you always know where you stand.

    Is it confidential?

Yes. Everything we discuss is held in confidence, in line with professional ethics. Your personal details and session content are never shared without your consent, except where required by law. I take your privacy seriously and am happy to answer any questions about how your information is handled before we begin.

How is hypnotherapy different from meditation or talking therapies?

Meditation is a broad mindfulness practice you do on your own. Hypnotherapy is a guided, focused process we do together toward a specific goal. Talking therapies like counseling explore your history through conversation, while hypnotherapy also works with the relaxed, subconscious patterns beneath everyday thinking. The approaches can work beautifully together, and hypnotherapy never replaces mental health treatment.

What results do people notice and when?

Some people notice small shifts after the first session or two. Others find change builds more gradually over the six weeks. Common feedback includes feeling calmer, more in control, and less reactive to old triggers. Results vary from person to person and nothing is guaranteed, but many people describe a steadier, kinder relationship with themselves by the end of the program.

Do you work with children and teens?

Yes, with appropriate care. Young people can benefit from hypnotherapy for things like exam stress, sleep, or confidence, and the approach is adapted to suit their age and understanding. A parent or guardian is involved in the process, and the work is always supportive and alongside any medical or mental health care the young person may have.

    What about ethics and standards?

I am a Mindlayers certified hypnotherapist, trained through a modern, ethical method that values teamwork, respect, and your autonomy. I never diagnose or claim to treat, cure, or heal anything. The work is always positioned as complementary to medical and mental health care. Ongoing professional development keeps my practice current and grounded.

How should I prepare for a session?

There is very little to do. Come as you are, ideally rested and free from heavy caffeine or alcohol beforehand. Wear something comfortable and choose a quiet space for online sessions. Bring an open mind and a sense of what you would like to work on. There is no need to prepare notes or have everything figured out. We will find the way together.
