I had not slept properly in months. Patty helped me understand it was my mind, not my bedroom. By session three I was falling asleep naturally again. I had forgotten what it felt like to wake up actually rested.
When night becomes a battle
Everyone else seems to drift off the moment their head touches the pillow. You lie there, turning things over — the shift that happened, the day ahead, the conversation you wish you had handled differently, that embarrassing thing you said in 2017. The clock moves, and the gap between you and rest grows wider with every glance.
After a while, the worry about not sleeping becomes its own problem, which is a particularly frustrating kind of catch-22. You start to dread bedtime, bracing yourself for another night of staring at the ceiling. The tiredness seeps into everything — your mood, your focus, the patience you have for the people you love.
You have tried the tips. The screen ban, the lavender, the warm bath. They help for a night or two, and then the old pattern comes right back. What is keeping you awake is not a lack of routine — it is the busy mind that does not know how to let go when the lights go out.
How it may help
Hypnotherapy for sleep is designed to help quiet the mental patterns that keep you awake — not simply relax you for one night. In a calm, focused state, we work with the racing thoughts and the underlying tension that make rest so difficult, helping your mind learn that bedtime is a safe place to let go.
Many clients find the sessions help them access a natural sense of calm at bedtime that they had forgotten was even possible. The work aims to change the pattern, so sleep begins to come more easily as a matter of course, not just on the occasional lucky night.
The approach is supportive and never replaces medical advice. If you are experiencing persistent sleep difficulties, please continue to work with your doctor — these sessions complement that care from a different, gentler angle.
Please note: If you're experiencing persistent sleep difficulties, please continue to work with your doctor. These sessions are designed to complement your medical care, not replace it.
Your programme
It begins with a free 60-minute consultation — a calm, no-pressure conversation about what you'd like to change and whether the programme feels right for you. If we continue, six live, one-to-one sessions follow, each building gently on the last.
We begin by exploring what your nights actually look like — the thoughts, the tensions, the routines. Understanding your unique pattern is the foundation for helping it change, and it is usually more interesting than you might expect.
Using focused relaxation, we work on gently calming the mental chatter that surfaces at bedtime. Many clients notice the mind beginning to settle more easily as the sessions progress, like turning down the volume on a radio that has been stuck on full.
We address the physical and emotional tension you carry into the night, helping your body learn to let go as evening arrives. Sleep comes much more naturally when the body feels safe enough to actually rest.
We work on shifting the anticipation and dread that can build around sleep, replacing it with a calmer, more neutral relationship with bedtime. The bed becomes a place of rest again, not a battleground you have to brace for.
We strengthen your body's natural sleep-wake rhythm and create gentle anchors for calm that you can use independently. Many clients find sleep beginning to arrive without effort, which is a lovely surprise after months of trying.
We consolidate the work so the changes feel sustainable and genuinely yours. You leave with tools to maintain restful nights and handle the occasional difficult evening without spiraling into old patterns.

Why choose Patty Dowd
"Hypnotherapy is a gentle journey where your mind learns to access its natural ability to change."
Patty is a Mindlayers certified hypnotherapist and Registered Nurse with over twenty-one years of experience, practicing from Bear Creek and working with people all across North Carolina and online. Her approach to sleep is warm, unhurried, and built entirely around your specific situation — never a generic script pulled off a shelf.
Many people find the structured six-session format gives the deeper work time to actually settle, so the change feels like it sticks rather than being a brief burst of motivation that fades after a few good days. Think of it as giving your mind the breathing room it needs to do the job properly.
Questions
Many clients find it genuinely supportive. The work is designed to help quiet the mental patterns that keep you awake. Results vary from person to person, and the sessions are always complementary to any medical care — please continue to work with your doctor.
Not exactly. The sessions help you enter a calm, focused state during the day, and teach your mind and body to access that same calm at bedtime. You learn the skill of settling, rather than being put to sleep — though plenty of people do find themselves wonderfully drowsy afterward.
Some clients notice changes in their sleep within the first few sessions, while others find the deeper shifts come a bit later. The six-session structure gives the work room to settle so the change feels lasting rather than a one-night wonder.
Yes, always. If you are experiencing persistent sleep difficulties, please continue to work with your doctor. Hypnotherapy is complementary to medical care, never a substitute. We can discuss how the two work together nicely.
That is very common — sleep and anxiety are closely connected, like two friends who keep winding each other up. The sessions are designed to work with both, helping calm the underlying patterns that keep your mind active at night.

The bedtime dread was the worst part. Patty's sessions were so calming, and slowly that dread faded. I still have the odd tricky night but I know how to settle myself now. Life-changing, honestly.
